Etisalat unblocks websites

Recently, Etisalat issued a notice that around 1,000 "offensive" websites have been unblocked as inline with TRA. How come something that is "inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values" suddenly become non-offensive? Is it serious review in policy or plain-ol' crap? Still, popular photo-sharing site flickr remains blocked..

Dark Knight

Gosh dint even realize July went past....never been so bz in my life...well its gud tht things are in motion and i'm out of my usual self imposed depression!! another month...a week already...lots of work...but interesting to learn new stuff...and do something that i like...

Dark Knight...i must say is a must watch...even if your not one of those DC/Marvel comic fans or super-hero fan....Batman/Joker, who's the better....hard to decide...but Heath Ledger as the Joker defintely stole the show....Amazing, sinister, dark, adrenaline rush....I guess one of the best roles played by Ledger...sad he cudnt see it through...dunno if they can continue on the same storyline with the Joker left hanging but surely not dead....The Joker is always gonna be the standard for villans to come....

Song-Meanings

Came across this article about song meanings....did you know that 'Bryan Adams-Summer of 69' was not really about the year 69 but er...the position!! and 'Tom Petty - Last Dance with Mary Jane' was really about "Mary Jane" i.e., pot!!!

Open-minded Society....tht's wht the world thinks...

Call-center Romeos

Put a condom vending machine in all the offices...shud solve the problem!!

Racism at its best

I witnessed a case of racism up close. An arab lady in a bus screaming at the driver coz he told her to shut her crap...not exactly but to speak a l'll softer and then begins the screaming and hair-pulling. All she kept telling him is that she's an Arab and he's an Indian....and by some god-damn default rule he has to shut his crap and not talk a word to her. Gosh, she kept saying this after every other word....and her argument...all Arabs are doctors, engineers and super-heroes. Bloody bullshit....racism at its best in the 21st century...and where exactly did I listen to this load of crap....in UAE...the most-developed, most-happening place on earth....decide for yourself....

Lost Finale

Lost Season 4 has come to an end...I guess its become the norm now to just have an explosive finale and have a rather boring season...I guess thts the only way people r going to continue watching Lost. Apart from all the complaining, I dont know y i still watch it....guess I  just want to see how the one TV serial I started watching from Day 1 end. Watched Lake House' recently, must say tho' it doesnt make any sense with the whole time-concept its a good-time pass.

Dubai's gleaming skyscrapers conceal city's labor abuse

The issue of labour abuse seems to have reached the international media. After years of talking among people and hearing stories of the rights abuse of the men behind the most glamorous projects in the world, its good and interesting to note that not only are the mega projects of Dubai being appreciated but also the workers rights are being taken into consideration. Its not just enough to keep filling the media with new project worth billions of dollars everyday but also keep in mind that these would not be possible if there aren't some that can be exploited. Are these buildings the same as expensive designer wear being stitched by some orphan kid in some dingy corner of recessive Asian countries. Is anything ever going to be done or is it just going to be a point of media concern and then forgotten? All one can say is to wait and see. Minimum wages, labour forums, revised labour laws...some of the issues recently discussed and eagerly awaited by the expat community but is it really going to work.

An Iranian's vision of Jesus' life

An interesting article about the 'The passion of Christ' through the eyes of an Iranian director....it just makes one wonder what would have happened if the opposite was done.... i don't think anyone in the middle east missed out the tantrums caused when some Danish newspaper published caricatures of the "prophet"... Tolerance...or just plain stupid...

Its a directorial debut for Ben Affleck and his brother stars in the lead role.. LOST is become more of a soap opera with Jack, Kate & Sawyer.

Walk the Line

Couldn't believe myself that I've been having a movie for the past 2 years and haven't watched it. And I must say that after I've watched it was amazing... 'Walk the Line' a biopic on Johnny Cash is a must watch. Joaquin Phoenix stars as Johnny Cash & Reese Witherspoon stars as June Carter his band member and love interest. Great acting, music, chemistry between the lead characters made the movie amazing. All the songs were sung by Joaquin & Reese. Definitely a Ring of Fire.

Prison Break is Back

End of another month. The first quarter of this year is over. Started watching prison break after it got over and I must say I've really been hooked on to it tho season 3 wasn't that much of a rush like season 1 or 2. There was wide speculation if season 4 would be there at all and now its official that season 4 will be airing sometime during the last quarter. Hope its not going to disappoint. Staying with tv serials, Lost is becoming too far-fetched and is becoming more of a sci-fi drama than a thriller that it used to be. Recently been listening to Keith Urban, must say he's sure got some good songs.

Lord of War

The real Lord of War - Vicktor Bout. After 2 decades, he was caught by an US sting operation. Interesting to note that one of his big shipments was through or to UAE...there's been a lot of news recently that arms traficking is increasing through Dubai.

Prison Break

i guess its just old stuff....but i jst got hold of Prison Break season 1....and i must say awesome concept....breaking out of a high security prison is impossible but it makes u feel that it can be done. The lead character Michael Scofield played by Wentworth Miller does a very good job tryng to be a con.... have to watch season 2 to see if the whole concept is sustainable in storyline or if its going to die down like LOST, which i must say is going in all weird directions atm....

LOST Ep3 - The Economist

another lost episode...pretty freaky to c sayid working for ben at the end!!!!

on a completely different note, been working with vista lately and i must say its sucks. no wonder most corporates are not rolling out vista to their systems. i guess the best part abt vista is the gui and tht's jst abt it. some small features have been added here and ther but i must say that doesnt make life easier nor is it worth the upgrade. thts jst my 2 cents...not that i'm a power user but being a person who has been playing around with MS OS's for quite some time since Windows 3.1, i think vista is going to be jst another windows ME...dunno if anybody remembers that edition..but it was released after win98 and was mostly a failure...i guess xp sp2 is so far the best working Windows edition so far. Microsoft has announced that its going to support XP till 2014...guess tht says a lot....cheers

The Galloping Beaver: Where is the USS Jimmy Carter?

recently there was a cable cut in the mediterranean sea and in the arabian gulf.. it was initally believed that it was an anchor that cut the fiber optic cables. but recently egypt has confirmed that there were no ships in that vicinity. quite a few conspiracy theories have come up about these cable cuts. one of them is below:

The Galloping Beaver: Where is the USS Jimmy Carter?

LOST Season 4 Ep 2 – Confirmed Dead

One of the most eeriest episodes so far. LOST seems to be going in an altogether different direction now that the team of "rescuers" are on the island. I guess the amount of questions that have been left unanswered thru most of the past 3 seasons just seems to continue. The events on the island seem to be the flashback now. Gotta wait and see if something interesting comes out of all the weird stuff like the polar bear in the desert with the dharma initiative tag!!!

LOST SEASON 4

The much awaited season 4 of Lost aired on thur in the US…I jst got a hold of it…must say tht its pretty different from the previous seasons….there was some hope tht they might get rescued but now with "flash-forwards" it seems leaving the island was not the rite thng tht they did…. Luks like the season is heading to a tragedy more than anything hopeful to luk forward to….with Lost one has to wait and watch….some missing pieces of lost have been aired recently…there r 13 of them and they're like mini-episodes…tryng to get a hold of them to figure out wht is gng on….cheers….
